Power Sense

Unexplained VFD trips, motors running hot, and energy bills that don't match production output are rarely maintenance problems. They're power quality problems. Power Sense is a wireless 3-phase power quality monitor that detects THD, voltage sags and swells in real time. Plug into any DIN rail cabinet and start monitoring in minutes. No cabling. No IT infrastructure.

More Details

Poor power quality is largely invisible until it shows up as a failed drive, an unexplained production stop, or an energy bill nobody can justify. Power Sense monitors your electrical network continuously, giving maintenance engineers, energy managers and operations teams the data they need to move from guesswork to root cause in minutes.

3-phase THD monitoring: measures Total Harmonic Distortion continuously on all three phases and harmonic analysis. Identifies which loads pollute your network before they damage equipment.

SAG and SWELL detection: captures voltage sags and swells with exact depth, duration and timestamp, per IEC 61000-4-30 Class S. Correlate every VFD trip or production stop with the electrical event that caused it.

Wireless LoRaWAN/4G, zero cabling: retrofits onto any machine or distribution panel in minutes. Long-range radio transmits up to 16 variables per frame every 60 seconds. AES-128 encrypted end-to-end.

Monitored variables: voltage L1/L2/L3, current L1/L2/L3, active power, power factor, frequency, energy (kWh), THD voltage, THD current, SAG events, SWELL events. All from one compact DIN rail device.

IEC 61000-4-30 Class S certified: measurement-grade power quality, CE certified, LoRaWAN Alliance certified. Available with Scops.ai platform for real-time correlation with production and maintenance data.

APPLICATION

Power Sense is designed for industrial facilities where unexplained electrical events cause production losses, accelerated equipment wear, or energy penalties. Typical deployment points include: motor control centers (MCC), VFD input circuits, transformer secondaries, welding machine supply lines, and main distribution boards in manufacturing plants.

Monitoring in accordance with IEC 61000-4-30 Class S and ISO 50001 energy management frameworks.

FAQ (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS)

What causes unexplained VFD trips in manufacturing?

Most unplanned VFD shutdowns trace back to voltage sags triggered by large motor starts, welding equipment, or grid disturbances. Without a precise timestamp and event depth, diagnosis becomes a process of elimination: swap the drive, test the cable, call the OEM. Power Sense logs every SAG event with depth, duration and timestamp, so the root cause is identified in minutes, not shifts.

Why do motors overheat and fail early?
Harmonic distortion generates excess heat in motor windings, accelerating insulation ageing and shortening service life. Power Sense measures THD continuously on all three phases and alerts your team when levels reach a point of concern, before heat and wear accumulate to failure.

How does Power Sense connect to the Scops.ai platform?
Data is transmitted wirelessly to a compatible gateway, then integrated directly into Scops.ai. Power quality events, SAGs, SWELLs, and THD spikes are displayed in real time and can be correlated with production data, machine status, and maintenance logs. AI supports you in the analysis.

What is the difference between SAG and SWELL detection?
A SAG is a short-duration voltage drop typically caused by motor starts or short circuits. A SWELL is a voltage rise caused by load switching or capacitor bank energisation. Both damage motors, drives, and sensitive electronics. Power Sense detects and logs both event types per IEC 61000-4-30.

Does Power Sense require cabling or IT infrastructure?
No. Power Sense uses wireless wireless transmission with no signal cabling required. It mounts on a standard 35mm DIN rail and installs in minutes with no network configuration on the machine side.
